MARGOT DID WON’T RUN MORE TIMES

MARGOT DID in the paddock preview to Albany Stakes 2010

After being run poorly in the first half of the year, the 4 years old filly Margot Did, trained by Michael Bell, will be retired of the competition to be sold as a broodmare.

Margot Did will be associated undoubtedly to her faithful jockey, Hayley Turner, who rode Margot at every race she ran except when she travelled to Paris last October to contest in Group one L’Abbaye due to a Hayley’s injury.

As a 2 year old filly Margot Did was an excellent runner. She won her two first races before going to Royal Ascot, where she contested in the Group 3 Albany Stakes. When she was going to win, appeared Memory to beat her by a head. She ran a great race and kept this high level in other Group races, being second in Margaret Stakes and Lowther Stakes

With 3 years Margot Did proved not to be just a precocious filly. After two good races, she won two Listed races in only a week, very impressive at Sandown, where she won by 5 lengths. In August she stepped forward and ran in the Nunthorpe Stakes, G1. She won the race from the pillar to the post, providing Hayley her second win in a G1 race. A dream come true! Hayley said: ‘I can’t believe it. She’s always special to me’. Video of the race:

Until this day Margot had run 13 times and never had disappointed. The little filly had never run poorly and had always struggled to win. Her next objective was going to be in Paris, the Prix Abbaye, the first time she would travel outside Great Britain. Unfortunately, Hayley couldn’t ride this day. She broke her ankle in a fall a month earlier. ‘She’s going to Paris without me!!!’ wrote in her twitter when she visited Margot in her stable. Margot Did suffered a bad trip and came last in the post.

This year Margot Did travelled to Dubai where she contested two sprints against some of the best sprinters in the world. I think she didn’t run badly, not far from the top finishers. But in her return to GB, things didn’t work well. Margot was in last or penultimate position in the three races where she ran. She had been working well but not be doing it on the racecourse. Her future will be in the stud, where hopefully she’ll become in a successful broodmare.
