HAYLEY TURNER’S HIGHLIGHTS IN 2011

  1. Margot Did wins the Nunthorpe Stakes. 19 Aug. Second Group I for Hayley, who had always ridden Margot, and first for trainer Michael Bell. HT: ‘I can’t believe it.   2. Dream Ahead wins the July Cup. 9 Jul. Hayley become the second woman, first outright, to ride the winner of a British G1. HT: ‘Going past the finishing post was an awesome feeling. I punched the air after the line thinking Oh my God, I’ve just won the July Cup’. (photo: theracinghorse.co.uk)
  3. 2011 figures. Until her injury, 31 Aug. Hayley had won 83 races (48 on Flat) during 2011, 15% of her rides, seventh jockey with most victories in that moment, with profits of 19.19 by pound bet in GB Flat 2011.
  4. Efistorm gives Hayley her 500 win in Great Britain. 1 Aug It happened at Windsor. HT, after winning with him later at Folkestone: ‘He is a real favourite of mine, a legend and a proper old school horse, who was winning his 20th race.   5. Treble at Yarmouth including The Tatling. 30 Jun. The 14 years old came back to win two years after his last victory in his 170th race. HT:’What a honour to ride The Tatling today where he lost his maiden many years ago, legend!’
  6. First victory at Glorious Goodwood for Hayley with Boom and Bust. 29 Jul. Hayley have ridden three times to Marcus Tregoning’s horse, winning all of them. HT:’I managed to get a breather round the bend and down the hill, and then he found another gear at the end.’
  7. Four Listed winners. Margot Did (2), 11 & 18 Jun; Primevere, 9 Aug and The Betchworth Kid, 6 Apr. Primevere broke the course record; TBK sailed from last to first under a beautifully judged ride and Margot (photo winning at Ayr) was able to win twice on seven days.
  8. Set To Music won at Nottingham. 28 Jul. Hayley won her second race for The Queen. HT:’She’s tough and improving. My first winner for The Queen was Tactician so it’s nice to have another.’
  9. Rides and Gold Cup and Arlington Million. 16 Jun & 13 Aug. Two great races. The Betchworth Kid (photo) was the first Gold Cup ride for Hayley while Wigmore Hall was her first G1 US experience. HT:’When we got some daylight he started running but Cape Blanco went on too.’
  10. Valuable places in two G2 races for two years. Silverheels, 16 a 1, was third at Newmarket in Superlative Stakes (9 Jun) and Caledonia Lady, 50 a 1, was fourth at York in Lowther Stakes (18Aug).
